Pottery Studio Cornwall

All of our pottery pieces are handmade here at the roastery by our resident potter, Lucy Brown. Lucy describes her craft as “pure bliss,” embracing it as a slow, meditative process. She shapes and transforms the clay on the wheel, drawing inspiration from the colours of the beach and ocean to create functional yet beautiful objects for everyday use.

The simple joy of using these thoughtfully made pieces, and becoming part of daily rituals, has the power to elevate everyday moments.

Glazes

For nearly all of the current collection a coastal blue glaze is used. Different colourings are acheived using various slip bases, and differing clay bodies. They are often reminiscent of the coast, and the applied slips can help create the impression of an incoming tide.

Stoneware Clays

We craft our tumblers using a range of natural clays. From warm toasted tones to rich volcanic black, each one is shaped by the earth. Every clay is chosen for its unique texture and color, inspired by coastlines around the world. These landscapes guide our palette and connect each piece to nature.

Functionality

Beautiful, durable, and made to last, this pottery is designed for everyday use. It is safe for both dishwashers and microwaves, combining practicality with elegance. Each piece is crafted to enrich the dining experience. It definitely elevates the morning coffee ritual here at Potterbeans.

Meet Lucy

Meet our resident pottery and artist, Lucy Brown. Lucy embodies slow living and when she is not in the studio, she spends her time gardening, cooking and sea swimming. As well as throwing beautiful tumblers for Potterbeans, she also creates her own pottery. Check out her website to see her range of functional pieces.
