Aeropress Brew Guide.
The Aeropress is an incredibely versatile and portable brewing tool that is essential for all coffee enthusiasts. It is the number one choice for single cup brewing on the move or at home brewing without an espresso machine. For this recipe we have used our wood-roasted Cuban coffee. This is a medium roast and so this recipe gives you a great starting point for Aeropress brewing and a solid foundation to dial in new and exciting coffees. Experiment with the elements below to come up with your own brew recipe for these coffees.
You'll Need:
- Water
- Coffee
- Aeropress Brewer
- Filters
- Stirring Paddle
- Scales (Ideally)
- Timer (Ideally)
Step 1
Weight out 18g of freshly roasted coffee beans.
Grind Size
You're aiming for a medium-fine grind size. It should be almost as fine as table salt.
Step 2
Place a filter in to the basket and attach it to the chamber.
Step 3
Place your mug on to the scales and then the Aeropress on top of your mug. Tare the scales.
Step 4
Pour the ground coffee in to the chamber using the funnel. Then give it all a quick shake to level the grounds.
Step 5
Gently add the water to the chamber, making sure to saturate all the grounds evenly.
Step 6
Stir the brew for 5 seconds using the provided paddle. You want to use a back and forth motion here to prevent the grounds from 'doming', which causes uneven extraction, resulting in an astrigent tasting coffee.
Step 7
Place the plunger on top of the brewing chamber and pull it back slightly to create a vaccum. This prevents the coffee passing through as it brews.
Step 8
Leave to brew for 1 minute and 30 seconds.
Step 9
Take everything off the scales and give it all a quick swirl and leave to settle for a further 30 seconds. Be careful not to be too aggressive when swirling or do it too much as this can also result in doming.
Step 10
Plunge the brew using consistent pressure. This should take about 30 seconds and you should be able to do it with one hand and without bracing yourself against the table.
Step 11
Enjoy your coffee however you prefer. We love a splash of milk in ours.
