The Aeropress is a fantastic brew method for a number of reasons; namely for its combination of portability and simplicity. Although the technical process mimics that of a delicate pour over; you can also get a really strong, syrupy brew depending on the volume and gauge of grinds added to the chamber. The apparatus itself is durable and allows for a really great quality cup of coffee quickly, and with little cleanup. Below you will find a simple brew guide for using a medium roast coffee:

Step 1: Weigh

The Aeropress is made for outings, so don't fret if you don't have access to a scale. We would recommend about 18 grams of coffee for 200ml. To simplify matters even more; one level scoop (which should come with your Aeropress) should do the trick!

Step 2: Grind

We recommend a medium/fine grind - not quite espresso, but finer than filter. You will get a feel for the right grind with experience.

Step 3: Assemble

Place a filter in the cap (called the basket) and attach that firmly to the brewing chamber. The filter should fit flush against the bottom of the basket.

Step 4: Rinse

Place the Aeropress on top of your cup and pour a bit of hot water over the filter to get rid of any 'papery' flavour the filter may contain from manufacturing. This step also preheats your cup which is important especially if you are outdoors (the Aeropress's natural habitat)

Step 5: Add grinds

Chuck your coffee grounds into the brewing chamber using the funnel provided.

Step 6: Pour

Gently add 200ml of water to the chamber, ensuring that all of the grounds are saturated.

Step 7: Stir

Give it a little stir for 5 seconds to dislodge any grinds that may have stuck to the filter or sides of the chamber. You want to use a back and forth motion to stir to help the grounds settle evenly. Using a circular motion could casue the grounds to dome, resulting in an uneven extraction and an acidic brew.

Step 8:  Brew

Leave the brew to settle for 1 minute and 30 seconds

Step 9: Swirl

Step 10: Plunge

Place the plunger on top, then depress until all water has been pushed through the filter and into your cup! You may hear a hissing sound (that's a good thing).

Step 11: Enjoy!

Now sit back and enjoy your brew, wherever you are. Or if you haven't taken the 'plunge' in to aeropress yet but are thinking about it, why not check out our aeropress bundles and elevate your brew? You can combine it with some of our bespoke artisanal pottery and wood-roasted coffee, which you can find right here.
